The Dutch iGaming industry launch will take place on October 1, 2021. This is a month later than expected, but it is still a great relief for Dutch online gambling fans. In January, the Minister for Legal Protection, Sander Dekker, announced April 1, 2021 as the new date on which the Remote Gambling Act (KOA) would come into effect. It has already been agreed that gambling companies are not allowed to use high-performance athletes in their advertisements. After all, these athletes can serve as role models for young people. In the latest version of the legislation, non-sports stars have also been added who are attractive to young people.

CRUKS Discover Netherlands Gambling License

The Central Register of Exclusion of Games of Chance (Cruks) comes into effect with the new Remote Gambling Act. This means that players must first register via the DigiD system. To register, they must fill in their Citizen Service Number (BSN), surname and date of birth. If the player is not a Dutch citizen, he must instead add details of foreign identity papers, such as a passport.

If a player does not have access to DigiD, he can only be registered by employees of the Gaming Authority.

When a player registers for the first time with an online operator, or if the player wants to access a land-based casino, he enters his citizen service number. Then a Cruks code is generated. This code will be compared with the list of codes for players who have excluded themselves. If it matches, the player will not be allowed to register or gain access to the casino. Betsson is part of the online gambling group Betsson AB, which also managed Oranje and Kroon Casino.

4. Kindred Group

Kindred Group was recently fined 470,000 Euro for offering illegal activities in the Netherlands. Nevertheless, Kindred remains committed to obtaining a Dutch gambling license. Among other things, the company operates Unibet, a popular online bookmaker. The Kindred Group is not expected to be the first to apply for a permit as they will likely have to go through the 2.5 month cooling off period first.

5. Homerson

The enterprising Hommerson family has been in the entertainment industry for over 100 years. This is also apparent from the many gambling halls that Hommerson operates in the Netherlands.

The company is now also ready to offer online services, which would be a nice asset for Dutch online gamblers. It remains to be seen whether and how Hommerson’s online casino will look like.

There is also a lot of interest from foreign gambling operators to enter the Dutch online gambling market. Betsson, Entain, Kindred Group and 888, among others, are among the foreign providers that are expected to join the Dutch iGaming market.

888 Casino is one of the largest gambling operators in the world.
